Case Studies.
Staffing Agency A pays exclusively by pay card, so they don’t need their own employee portal because their employees can use the pay card company’s portal. They are in downtown Columbus, GA and all their jobs are within a 25-mile radius and they also have a policy of interviewing every applicant face to face. So they may not need electronic onboarding, because if an applicant knows they will need to eventually go in for an interview, they will usually opt to enter the application at the staffing company’s office to do it all in one trip. The applicants may still enter their entire application at a computer “kiosk” at the office. But the staffing company will have avoided the monthly electronic onboarding hosting fees. Company A could cap their costs entirely because they require no online modules.
Staffing Agency B pays by direct deposit, pay card and a few checks for new employees only. Since they don’t want to deliver printed direct deposit vouchers, they do need an employee portal for employees to view and print paystubs. They place electricians at solar farms all over the country, so they do need electronic onboarding. They also place electrical engineers, so they require a full HR module for certification and license tracking and benefit administration. All three additional services require the internet, which thereby requires us to charge PEPM (per employee per month).
PEO/ASO companies stand to benefit the most by The Fackler Group approach. They often have a wide array of customers in every kind of business imaginable. Some PEO customers need a full HR module. Others just need electronic onboarding but then no ongoing online features. Some PEO customers need a robust time and attendance system onsite. Others scan and send hand written time sheets or enter hours into a spreadsheet. Some PEO customers need an employee portal for viewing and printing paystubs. Others have a few people still being paid by check, so they request that paper direct deposit vouchers be FedExed with the checks - thereby eliminating a pressing need for an employee portal. Some PEO customers require that PTO only be requested through an HR module. Others allow more informal email or verbal requests. The bottom line is this: since the enhanced online feature are charged via PEPM (per employee per month) on a module by module basis, the PEO/ASO is not paying for all employees to have access to all modules. They are paying only what they need to make each individual PEO customer happy.
